Between matter and perception.
Between surface and presence.

Between matter and perception.
Between surface and presence.

“I was not searching for a style.
I was searching for a space beyond form —where matter begins to speak, and the inner becomes structure.
This is how Alchimography was born.”
— Ellen Voss
It is not a technique.
It is a language beyond the image — a space where art becomes a carrier of time, beauty, memory and light.
Each work becomes part of a space, shaping an atmosphere one wants to live, work, create and meet in.
Working with mineral materials — marble powder, shungite, lapis lazuli, limestone tuff, pigments, gold leaf, oil and tempera — Ellen Voss approaches matter as a living field carrying density, light and inner history.
Interacting with light, architecture and surroundings, the works shift the perception of space and become part of its atmosphere.
The work exists not only as an object, but as part of a living dialogue between space and person.
Each relief is unique.
Each painting is the result of a deep dialogue between the artist, the material, and the moment of creation

Marble dust holds the memory of stone after its transformation. A stone of beauty, harmony, grandeur, and inner purity.
It exists between substance and air, between surface and light. In Alchimography its presence makes visible what usually remains hidden. Marble dust is the foundation of many of my works.
Its finest structure holds light and creates a sense of soft glow, arising as if from within the matter itself.
“My work explores the silent transformation of matter, perception, and presence.”
Drawing on more than 25 years of experience in psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, pedagogy, and the study of human perception — alongside many years of teaching and private practice — Ellen Voss develops an artistic practice that explores the interrelation of inner experience, matter, and perception.
Rather than searching for a style, Ellen has formed her own visual language — Alchimography — grounded in material transformation, perception, and spatial presence.
From an early age, Ellen studied classical oil painting, gradually expanding her practice through work with marble dust, mineral pigments, gold leaf, limestone tuff, tempera, oil, and natural materials.
The painted surface becomes a field of interaction between matter, energy, and state — a space of silence, contemplation, and inner resonance.
Each work emerges as an almost alchemical passage from inner state to artistic form — and from form back to inner experience.
In Alchimography, matter is regarded not as a means of representation, but as an active participant in the process.
Each material preserves its own structure, memory, and character.
Light, time, gesture, and environment enter into continuous interaction with it, forming surfaces that cannot be fully predetermined.
The work arises not from a predefined form, but from a process of transformation.
Each state reflects one of the stages of this movement — from becoming to perception, memory, and presence.
Matter records transformation through pressure, erosion, fracture, and light.

The work exists between image, object, and spatial experience.
Mineral surfaces retain traces of time, gesture, and sedimentation.
Light emerges through density rather than representation.

Each work lives two lives — in the space of a room and in the substance of its own surface. Drag the slider to see both.

Each work is created using unique natural materials and pigments. All materials are individually selected and mixed by hand, creating a unique texture and energy.
Yes. The gallery features original works available for immediate purchase. Each one carries its own complete energy and is ready to find its owner. Custom commissioned works are also possible — in that case, creation takes 4 to 8 weeks.
The time depends on the size and complexity of the work. The process usually takes 4 to 8 weeks. Each painting requires time to emerge — the layers must dry and the image must find its completion.
Yes, shipping is available worldwide in special protective packaging. Each work is insured for its full value and sent with tracking. Shipping costs are calculated individually.
The works require no special care. It is recommended to avoid direct sunlight and high humidity. Use a soft dry cloth to remove dust. The textural materials are resistant to time and retain their beauty for decades.
Yes, work is conducted with a limited number of clients at a time. This allows full attention to be given to each commission and preserves the depth of the process. New client intake opens periodically — follow for updates or reach out directly.
Matter remembers light.
Works are available for private collections, architectural environments, and site-specific contexts.
Each piece evolves through material presence, surface transformation, and spatial resonance.
Every work begins with a conversation.
Through dialogue around atmosphere, perception, space, and material presence, each piece develops individually.
